Welcome to Wander with Nate.
After 30 years of public service, the tempo finally stopped.
For thirty years my days ran on a clock that was not mine. There was always a schedule to keep, a mission to finish, and somebody counting on me to show up.
Twenty of those years were in the United States Army, where I retired as a Chief Warrant Officer 4 (CW4). I served tours in Iraq and Afghanistan and took part in multiple humanitarian missions, including the response to the 2010 earthquake in Haiti. It was an honor to serve this country.
Then, one day, it all stopped. The marriage was over and the nest was empty. I found myself back in my childhood bedroom under my mom’s roof, with no rank, no title, no tempo, and nowhere I had to be. Just a man and a quiet morning.
Quiet like that can feel like losing everything. I’m learning to see it as an invitation instead: to be still, to listen, and to ask who I am when the work is done. I believe the stopping was not the end of my story. There is purpose in the pause, and faith grows best at walking speed.
I’m not perfect. I’m just finding my way in this world and appreciating the time I have on this earth.
Wander with Nate is just me sharing that journey. Not a reset, but an honest step forward.
